I compiled them w/o any problems that I recall.  In fact, I think there
was a NetBSD configuration in Pine, already.

I'm mainly using it so my wife doesn't have to learn vi or emacs (as if
I had the free disk space to install emacs... ;-), so I don't know what
bugs there might be in pine, itself.
