The ...cpt.bin files are cpt files, in MacBinary format.  After ftp'ing
them over, I transferred them to my mac by tar'ing them onto floppies
and using SunTAR.  I don't remember what settings I use, but they're
probably default.  I'm also pretty sure I've downloaded some of the
smaller files via zmodem (MicroPhone LT) with no problems.

I've also used macunpack to un-cpt them on my (unix) workstation, and
in particular, I've used macunpack and then macsave to extract the raw
tar files out of the ...tar.cpt.bin files.  (This helps tremendously in
my efforts to set up a cross development system...)

Having never used TurboGopher before, my first wild guess is to make
sure your transfers are in binary (8-bit) mode.
