There appears to be an inconsistancy between the parts of the terminal behavior.
If I select the large font, everything seems normal.
If I select the small font, the output goes to col 106 as expected when I
"cat" some long lines. If, however, I "ls" a directory, the lines are
initially formated for the wide screen and then "wrapped" as if the screen
were only 80 col.
