} You might want to try Silicon Image based cards. They are not perfect,
} but available cheaply. E.g. the entry level Adaptec cards were using them.

     Note that currently, only the Silicon Image SATAlink 3112 and 3114
are supported (see 'man satalink').  A driver for newer cards is being
worked on.
