If all else fails, you may want to try GENERIC.NOACPI -- that should be
the old system, with apm instead of ACPI. (I seem to recall seeing
that Thinkpads of that vintage had buggy, non-conforming ACPI tables.
There is some dangerous procedure to update your tables... You may
want to see if there's a newer BIOS available.)
