Ah, something weird happened. On initial boot from "boot -s", "savecore -c"
went though OK. Continuing on into multiuser, lots of processes (before
reaching logon stage) seemed to get stuck. Interrupting them and they were
listing as hung in "tstile" (well, I didn't wait too many minutes to see
if they unhung themselves).
