BTW, one more anomaly, probably due to the fact that netbsd-GENERIC 
includes IPv6.  But it seems that I cannot start rpc.lockd - it 
complains about "cannot get udp netconf".

Is there some simple way to stop it from trying whatever it's doing?
(For now, I can just disable lockd in /etc/rc.conf, but longer term 
that's not much of an option.)

Hmmm, I wonder if this is also what's giving ntpd and xdm fits?
