One way to observe this is to try newfs_lfs -A on various partitions
from the beginning to the end of a disk.  At least on my el-cheapo
SATA drives, there is a clear difference.  It's interesting how , if
one averages these results, the ideal segment size for a whole
[modern] disk almost always comes out to ~2MB--the default. ;)
