Yes, it is definitely possible.  Maybe I can use this as an
opportunity to really learn a text processing/macro language and cook
up an automagic parser for configure.ac/makefile.am.  Perhaps some
saintly yet subtly masochistic individual out there already has
written such a beast.

Anyone who wishes to help with this is of course welcome; please
contact macallan@, Christos, or me. the goal is to get modular Xorg
into 4.0.
I already have it building with the exception of OpenGL support on
amd64, and others have it working to varying degrees on i386, macppc,
and sparc64.
