FYI, I'm now running yesterday's kernel on my laptop; it's not having any
timer-related glitches, such as the fetchmail problem I mentioned the
other day.  It automatically selected i8524 as the timer.  (Aside: with
dual-core laptops already on the market, some other solution will have to
be found, I suspect.)
