I tried vesafb with my Matrox G400 (no splash screen) in 1280x1024x32
mode. Scroll speed is awful, but it works execpt for:
* DIAGNOSTIC kernel panics during attach, causing a blank screen
* vesafb steals the console when console is set to serial console, but
then works with DIAGNOSTIC
* disabling the vesafb mode change reveals that the panic is the
!wsdisplay_console_initted assertion
* vgaconsole is 1 on a booted, non-DIAGNOSTIC kernel and kernels without
vga don't work

Also, switching back from an mga X server can cause the display to be
horizontally offset.
