I don't have more hints, but I can confirm exactly the same behavior
in 2.0.  I got hangs both with USB sticks and my Epson USB scanner, until
I disabled ehci; now ehci is permanently disabled in my config, and I never
get those hangs any more.  I don't think ehci works....  My USB chipset's
from Acer Labs.
