Hello,
I encountered the same problem.  Decided to start from scratch and did a 
make extract.  I then "cd'd" into the work directory, ran configure, with no
errors and then I did a make.  It compiled cleanly.  I decided to remove the
patches directory and removed the patch entry from distinfo.  I then did a
"make clean && make clean-depends && make".  It built cleanly.  I then did a 
"make install" which also built cleanly.  Looks like it was soemthing with the
patch.  Not sure what it was, but I'll investigate it further later.  Hopes this
