Has any thought been given to splitting the repository up, and, say,
housing "src" on one machine, and all the other stuff on a second box?
It would make intial checkouts a little more complex, but it would
extend the amount of time that the entire repository would fit in RAM on
a 32-bit machine... my quick 'du' shows src to be just under 2G, and
"everything else" (pkgsrc, xsrc, htdocs, othersrc) to be less than 1.5G.
It's not ideal to have two machines, but it could be workable...

Just a thought.
