No, I just recompiled XFree from updated /usr/xsrc to see if it made a
difference, but no.  (BTW, I installed the xorg meta-port and found that
I could not get the ps/2 mouse to work so I went back to XFree.)

When I start xterm from a gnome-terminal window instead of from the
gnome-panel it works fine.  I guess I should recompile gnome (again!).
Seems like all I do on this machine is recompile gnome.
