I have to admit that I didn't follow the thread before.

But anyway, is there still a technical reason to enforce
a special handling of c: (on i386, where d is RAW_PART)?
A while ago I did scan the sources foe uses of it and
I believe I didn't find any.

Well, a reason would be interchangeability of disks between
i386 and the rest, but then we would have to reserve d: on
all non-i386s as well...
