I also asked about this off-list a while back. APNIC moved 4Gb of web and a far smaller amount of code into svn, and while we've had issues, we've also had huge benefits. the ability to track directory mv/delete is good.

I respect the core developers wish not to have to do this right now, but I hope they can find some time to look into it 'one day'
