Now I'm confused. I got a panic, so I rebooted and tried doing bits and
pieces of the command to see if I could isolate it - and now it works fine no
matter what. It may be that the panic only happens if you do the whole
configuration in a single pass, before any of it's been done?

Anyway, backtrace is:
ieee80211_chan2mode + 0x25
wi_media_change + 0x5f
if_media_ioctl + 0xe9
wi_ioctl + 0x1a1
ifioctl +0x878
soo_ioctl + 0x244
sys_ioctl + 0x368
syscall_plain + 0x14d
syscall #54

More isolation later.
