Sorry, someone replied offline and I thought that was on the list.

I was mistaken.  Somehow, after years of using vi, I never noticed
this.  The above only happens in *insert* mode.  The above happens
in a stock 1.6 system as well as -current, in insert mode.

It's still annoying, but is not a change.
