You're missing a supposition: there are insubstantial changes to
netbsd-1-6 to make it cross-compileable at a whim (without a
carefully crafted toolchain that's not part of the tree). That's a
false supposition.

It *is* fixed. It needs to be pulled up. That might be simple, and
it might verge on the impossible.
