   The error did not occur after a cvs update to pkgsrc here (which
pkgsrc was previously from the tar file).  ...my mistake, probably
trying to make packages that were a day or two older than this
system, which was updated by way of cvs.  Thanks for the hint that
prompted my first cvs update to pkgsrc.
