OK, I'm missing something. Before I switch into debug-and-fry-brain
mode, this should work right?

$ cd /ul/src/netbsd/NetBSD-current-src/src
$ cd src/sys
$ cvs -z9 update -dP
<usual CVS guff deleted, but successful update>
$ cd ../src
$ ./build.sh tools
<looks OK, tooldir.NetBSD-1.6.1-i386 created>
$ ./build.sh kernel=jb
<stuff that looks OK deleted, then...>
#    create  jb/param.c
rm -f param.c
cp /var/src/netbsd/NetBSD-current-src/src/src/sys/conf/param.c .
nbmake: don't know how to make
/var/src/netbsd/NetBSD-current-src/src/src/sys/../contrib/sys/dev/ic/athhal_osde
p.c. Stop

nbmake: stopped in
/var/src/netbsd/NetBSD-current-src/src/src/sys/arch/i386/compile/obj/jb

FWIW the host system says
$ james@artworks::~/dev/tools/fw [103] uname -a
NetBSD artworks 1.6.1 NetBSD 1.6.1 (JARTZ.debug) #0: Fri Jan  2 13:44:28 EST
