hmm... How about creating a picture of a string of random ASCII letters
dynamically,
which you have to type into an input text field?

When the text on the picture matches what you typed into the textfield, then
you proofed yourself that you're no script or crawler. :)

Varying the font type and -size of the text on the picture should let fail
some
more image/text recognition programs.
