I have had the same problem for a while with ddd 3.3.7 and the « builtin
» gdb. I thought it was some bug related to ddd, rather than gdb itself.

USELIBEDIT=no in /usr/src/gnu/usr.bin/gdb53/Makefile.inc definitely
solves the problem.
