I did a bunch in June, PR 21923, but nobody installed the diffs. 

Yeah, I worked on the documentation partly as an exercise in retraining 
my fingers from old/other make build environments.  ;-)

Harumph.  Faster systems are for production, slower leftovers are for 
development!  (you're right, there is a lot of bloat.)
