I'm attempting to retrieve and build; the build is failing at
$SRC/gnu/dist/sendmail because assert.c (and, in fact, all the
other files) are missing.  [see below for CVS errors.]

I've done a fetch-and-extract of the tar files to make CVS extraction
easier to do (cvs co takes forever).
