I really would consider getting an UPS! =)
I got a cheap APC Back-UPS for less than 70€, and it will keep my 
crowded server running for about 15 minutes. And with apcupsd running, 
the system will shutdown cleanly if the power doesn't come back. The 
fact that it also protects my expensive (and sensitive) ADSL adapter 
from power surges makes it more than worthwhile.
