when I boot the 1.6W kernel, the screen of my laptop (Compaq Presario
2800) winks out a few tenths of a second after loading the kernel. I
have to log and lauch X blindly before I can see something again. This
did not happen with a 1.6U kernel.

I've read somewhere similar problems for the iMac series.

Any clue ? It seems (reading dmesg) that the interrupt scheme for this
computer is somewhat mangled. Does this explains that ? :)
