Now that gcc3 is in the tree, is it possible to cross-build for alpha from
   say, an i386 machine, if USE_TOOLS_TOOLCHAIN=no? I know it wasn't with gcc
   2.95.3, but if it is with 3.3.1, that would be nice, because my 266mhz 21164
   doesn't compile as fast as my 533mhz celery ;)


"yes" but there is still an issue with building the in-tree gcc in such
a situation i hope to resolve soon....

the checked-in "auto-build.h" must die.
