There wasn't a struct sigevent in signal.h in 1.6.1, but it's there in
-current, and has been since mid-January (rev 1.50 of sys/signal.h,
which is included by /usr/include/signal.h). Are you sure you have the
right versions of things?

The timer_*() calls are implemented in -current and should work.
