"autoselect" can only work if both ends of the cable are set so.

If your switch is set to force 100/full, it is inherently also set
to disable negotiation. This includes any negotiation from the
other end's "auto" to determine this. So you have to set the other
end to the same.

I've had good results with vlan(4) trunking on fxp(4) under light
and medium load, but certainly the interfaces I've used most heavily
in such a manner (squillions of packets) were ex(4).
