It sounds like you may have faulty memory, and the machine is
panicing and dropping to ddb(4) while you have X on the console.
try using pkgsrc/sysutils/memtest86; this builds a small image that
you put on a floppy and boot from, and will test your memory.
And please check the character-set you use when sending mails in
English - as you can see above, some mailers don't understand it :)
