If the interface hasn't changed you should be able to just do a
"make replace" in the appropriate place. If the fix is a change to
one of the pkgsrc patches it'll probably work fine. It's marked as
experimental, but it's been working fine for me. (ideally each version
of a package would know what it is backwards compatible with so you
wouldn't have to guess, but that's a bit more work (and maintenance))
