Is anyone working on adding
btowc(3) <http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/007908799/xsh/btowc.html>
and wctob(3) <http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/007908799/xsh/wctob.html>
to NetBSD's libc? Or does anyone know where I can get a suitable
implementation? I took a look at the FreeBSD version, but it doesn't
look like it'll just drop in to our libc.

It seems like they'd be easy to implement, but I'm not familiar enough
with our locale system to do it.
