Thanks for your reply.  Yes, I think I am using the default submit.cf/mc.  
/etc/mail/submit.cf seems to have been created with submit.mc version
8.6.2.4 dated 2002/12/29.  That's the version of submit.mc in my 
/usr/share/sendmail/cf directory.  submit.mc contains the FEATURE line 
that you described.  

You typed "should turn of DNS."  Did you mean "off" or "on?"
