Yes, that's the way my nameserver works.
Named 9.2.2 is in /usr/local/sbin.
The file /etc/rc.d/named points to that directory. Since /usr/local is a
separate partition, I have this in the named script:
# REQUIRE: SERVERS mountall
It just works.
