I have about a month of free time looming in front of me.  If we have an
infinitely patient kernel hacker willing to answer stupid questions, and I can
get the documentation, I'd be happy to have a go at it.  It looks like it's
"almost running" right now; I can probe firewire devices.  This is something
that would be awfully useful to me, anyway, and thus maybe worth pursuing.
