Hmm, why is this change being made?  I can see it saving a few MB's of
disk space, but I like the statically linked binaries because I feel more
"secure" with them in emergencies ;-)

With the disks of today, MB's cost nothing..  (I do have machines with
disks well under 1 GB, and I have never found size of / to be a problem.)
