I'm thinking j2me/cdc is just fine depending on target areas
(may make even more sense than j2se! in some cases)
eg.,
http://www.linuxworks.com/products/lynxos/aphelion-java.php3
 - Aphelion java for LynxOS
http://www.newmonics.com/
 - NewMonics PERC JVM
http://swjscmail1.java.sun.com/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0206&L=j2me-cdc-interest&D=1&O=D&P=1167
 - ``We have ported CVM 1.0 to netbsd/x86...''

I'm not sure about such things like licensing
constraints for patches' distributions though.
