Yesterday I got second-hand 3Com Megahertz (Model 3CCFEM556B) NIC to my
old Toshiba T1910 (486SX, 33MHz, 8MB of RAM) laptop.

While trying to boot NetBSD I got:

ep0 at pcmcia0 function 0 port 0x400-0x41f: 3Com/Megahertz 3CCFEM556BI Ethernet/Modem
ep0: wrote 0x7ff to TX_AVAIL_THRESH, read back 0x1fff. Interface disabled
ep0: couldn't configure controller
com3 at pcmcia0 function 1 port 0x400-0x407: serial device
com3: ns16550a, working fifo

Why ep0 disables the interface? Is this card broken? My friend did quick
test with his laptop. He plugged the card in and got light to 10Mbps led.
So it works(?) in newer Windows laptop. I don't have the cable for modem
so I can't test it.

After those lines NetBSD continues booting normally until it says

pcmcia0: card irq 5

And just waits something.. I haven't waited too long, but if I plug off
the card it will continue booting and after that I can plug the card back
and get same messages again.

ifconfig says ep0 is not configured (as it should..?)

I made own snapshot of 1.6A 8.6.2002 and sources are from the same day and
installed the system with my friends NE2000-clone NIC.

Here is the complete dmesg output:
