Sorry for the repost, I just realized that the layout might be the same
across ports, and some of the other ports have had more disk problems than
port-i386.
This is a disk layout question and I am also curious whether the partition
info is similar across platforms.

Subject: Direct disk editing & regenerating partition info.
I've deleted my NetBSD partition info. I really need to find the data in
the last partition, which is /dev/wd1e on my disk.
Can I search through the data still physically on the disk for something
that identifies the start of a partition? Then can I write just that
correct info into the disktable so I can get to the data?
