Yah.  MKLINKLIB=no should be set by the Makefile (which causes .so.MAJOR and
.so.MAJOR.MINOR to be installed, no more, for runtime support only), so I'm
not entirely sure when or why the .a's popped up.  The non-PIC objects
shouldn't even be built at all by the libbfd Makefile.
