I seem to remember some similar crash in the 2001/06/24 sources, but I
don't seem to have recorded it in my notes and I don't currently have a
"headed" i386 test machine (other than a 4MB i386sx25 laptop.... ;-)
(argh, it's still got 1.5T on it and doesn't go multi-user....)
