The mkttfdir-1.1 only generate fonts.* files in "xtt" format.
And I can use fonts/arphicttf with mozilla well under 4.1.0.
(I not yet upgrade my X. ;))
Can you see any output with this command: xlsfonts | grep "alias*" ?
Do you try other program with your TTFs?
Maybe it is the problem of "xtt" module under 4.2.0.
However, if you want to use "freetype" module, you can use mkttfdir-1.2.
