Until you said you were using 1.5 Y, I thought it was my recent
changes.

Can you try a newer kernel?  I made changes somewhere around the 1.5Y
time period, but I thought they were working on i386.  Macs had
problems, which I hoped my recent revert of some of the diffs would
fix.
