So, my IPAQ has revealed a strange apparent bug.

If it reboots normally, all is well.

If it crashes, it can never boot again, because the NFS server will never
respond again, until I log into the NFS server, kill all the nfsd's, and
restart them.

This is happening to a 1.5.3_ALPHA system and a -current system.  I don't
have any other problems like this; the only time I have this is if the
NFS client crashes.
