I don't think that's true, actually.  USB is really aimed at keyboards, mice, etc.
which was not really the target for Firewire.  So I think Human Interface Devices
are more developed for USB.  That doesn't mean I think USB was a good idea
in the first place.  It would probably have been better to just standardize HID
devices for Firewire than coming up with a brand new bus.

But these things are rarely decided on technical merit.  It's mostly political.
And I think Apple managed to screw themselves again.  They charge a few
cents for every Firewire port produced in the world.  That made other companies
upset (like Intel; they've said their chipsets will not support Firewire partly because
of this).
