BTW, the new toolchain ld(1) is still broken as far as i know.  it does
not properly search for libraries linked into other shared libraries
and then complains about missing symbols.  i've not been able to build
a lot of software (such as X11 things) with the new ld.  this is the
case on sparc & i386.
