No, definitely not. Modifying files like that in /etc is the
sys admin's job and sys admins tend not to like things like that
happening behind their back.
What could happen is the 240/256 ttys go into the distributed
src/etc/etc.${arch}/ttys files (and hopefully get listed in the
appropriate order). Then sys admins can pull it in if they want.
