The problem with magicfilter is that it pulls in every package under the
sun -- it requires way too much 'stuff', at least as enshrined in our pkg
tree.  

The only requirement I have is that it be able to tell either text or post-
script (both is icing) from raw printer data and DTRT; install TeX so I can
handle 90 other file formats is definitely overkill, especially since most
if not all applications will end up producing either plain text or postscript
(or raw printer data in the case of windows boxes).
